Performance tests have return results for Intel’s first discrete graphics processor for laptops. The Iris Xe Max is apparently only a slight improvement over the latest “Tiger Lake” CPUs. This is disappointing, especially for people who wish to invest in a new laptop to play games on without investing too much in cost.

According to PCMag, while testing the speed of the GPUs, the team at PCMag noticed that Xe Max-equipped laptops would perform slightly worse than Iris Xe silicon that is built with Intel’s higher-end 11th Generation Core CPUs. A good handful of games were tested. One of which is the popular first-person shooter, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

For people who need the GPU for other tasks like video rendering and AI processing, the Iris Xe Max still provides a significant benefit. According to Intel’s testing, the combination of an 11th Generation Core i7 and an Iris Xe Max chip could outperform certain gaming GPU under certain conditions.
